Synthesis and Characterization of Liquid Crystalline Random Copolyester

Abstract

Copolyesters are one of the most important class of polymers with repeating carboxylate group in their backbone. In the present work, copolyesters based on Adipoyl chloride with Aliphatic diols were synthesized by solution polycondensation method . A copolyester was synthesized using 3-Chloro-1,2-Propanediol as one of the diols with Adipoylchloride as Diacid chloride. 2,5-Hexane diol was used as another diols for the synthesis of random copolymer. A formation of copolyester was confirmed by using Ultraviolet (UV), Fourier Transform Spectroscopy Infrared (FTIR), Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectral techniques. Morphology of the copolyester has also been characterized using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and X-rayDiffraction(XRD)Method.Elemental analysis further confirms the formations for the copolymer. Results of the investigation confirm a relatively new entry copolymer in the family of liquid crystalline copolymers.
